Holiday Season
Make-up Tips
TEXT Crisger Santley
D uring the holidays season,
make-up gives you a chance
to do something fun, new
and creative, and this year’s
hot make-up trends offer lots of options
for creating exciting new looks.
With such a wide variety of holiday
activities, no single make-up look will
work for all occasions. For a dressy,
black tie event, you may want a more
dramatic, glamorous look, but for
neighborhood get-togethers or outdoor
activities, a more natural, wholesome
look works better.
No matter the occasion, here are some
tips to achieve your best possible
holiday make-up look.

Winter Skin Care
Maintaining a healthy winter skin-care
routine is the single most important
thing you can do to make sure your
holiday make-up looks great. Applying
make-up to dry skin accentuates
flakiness because the make-up sits on
top of your face instead of blending
in. Daily use of a rich, high-quality
moisturizer is a must (Embryolisse Lait-
Crème Concentré is a good choice).
It’s also important to exfoliate your
face twice a week to remove dead skin
cells, and consider a monthly facial
during the winter months to freshen
and rejuvenate your skin. Your skin-care
routine should still include SPF, because
even indoor light can damage skin.
Getting the Right Look
When choosing a foundation for the
holiday season, there are a number of
factors to consider. The first is color.
During the winter, your skin can be
up to four shades lighter than in the
summer, so be sure to adjust the color of
your foundation if necessary.
The next thing to consider is what
products to use and how to apply them.
For dressy evenings out, waterproof,
silicone-based products last longer, and
in most cases, won’t smudge off on to
your fancy clothing. For professional
holiday photo shoots, water-based
foundation is usually the best choice,
but it should be applied with an
airbrush, because high-definition
cameras will pick up hard brush marks
