Recognizing the value of sports in the
development of young people, the Bethesda
Big Train’s founders John Ourisman and Bruce
Adams established the Bethesda Community
Base Ball Club in 1998 with a mission to improve
the condition of youth baseball and softball
fields in Washington and Montgomery County.
To ensure that Big Train baseball continues
to exist for future generations, the Bethesda
Community Base Ball Club turned the Big Train
baseball program over to the BCC Baseball
youth organization in 2012. Program offerings
include Bethesda Big Train Baseball Camp.
Families can also reserve picnic space with the
Big Train at Shirley Povich Field.

Established in 2011, the Capital Water Polo
Club started with 18 players and today has
more than 120 participants and five division
teams. A dedicated girls team was added in
2021. All other teams are co-ed and include all
levels of players. Capital strives to help each
player reach his or her athletic potential, while

demanding sports. The program builds life skills
that include teamwork, respect, resiliency and
